Winter short break on Dartmoor 5/5 Stayed Feb 2019 Elena B. Firstly, thanks to the owners, Mike & Sophia, for friendly and efficient communication while booking our stay. When we arrived, Sophia was there to meet us and welcomed us warmly before showing us around the grounds and cottage. The cottage is next to their house with a great outlook over the fields and moors but doesn’t feel overlooked. Sophia assured us that if there was anything we needed, just to knock on their door.

Inside the cottage, the most delicious scones plus jam and clotted cream awaited us, plus eggs from their hens. A comprehensive information pack including walking maps, local restaurants/pubs and other local information was really helpful.

The cottage is warm, clean and spacious, with comfortable beds, great views and a cosy lounge complete with wood burner (ideal for curling up with a book after a snowy walk!) The ducks and hens in the yard below kept us entertained while doing the washing up!

We loved the walk up onto the moors from the cottage – a real mix of beautiful wooded river walks, ancient fields and open moorland. We walked to Gnat Tor and Baggator, and also enjoyed walks further afield at Grenofen and Burrator.

Food-wise, we had a wonderful lunch at the Cornish Arms in Tavistock – definitely recommended.

Thanks again to Mike & Sophia for creating such a lovely peaceful place. Look forward to coming back in warmer weather as the outside areas looked amazing.
